And breathe.... London's Ultra Low Emission Zone is finally here
The new Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) launched on 8 April 2019 in central London, with the area to be extended to the North and South circular roads in 2021. It's a welcome development for the capital, with around 10,000 Londoners thought to die prematurely due to air pollution each year. Under ULEZ, everyone driving a polluting vehicle will now have to pay £12.50 per day when entering the zone, rising to £100 for lorries. Failure to pay will result in fines of £160 and £1,000 respectively. Generally speaking, petrol cars pre-2006 and diesel cars from before 2015 will be affected. You can find out whether your vehicle complies using the ULEZ checker.
