For this year’s Fringe, one of the UK’s leading green roof experts, Chris Bridgman, will be coming to Wanstead to talk about how residential extensions can be transformed into gardens in the sky.
Whether you’ve got a flat roof already, or are planning to build something in the future, the session will cover everything you need to know about how to install a living green roof.
Green roofs are really taking off in central London – not surprisingly as they have loads of benefits. As well as extending the life of the roof, they are insulating, so reduce heating bills in winter and help keep rooms cooler during heat waves. They look fantastic and can really improve the view from upstairs windows. As the ecological and climate crisis worsens, they can also play a key role in supporting biodiversity, capturing carbon, reducing city temperatures, and managing rainwater run-off during downpours.
The session will provide a practical guide to installing a green roof as well as the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Chris will provide practical demonstrations, case studies and a step-by-step guide to turn your roof from grey to green.
Entry to the event is free (no ticket needed). Coffee, wine and other refreshments will be available from The Larder from 6.30pm.
