Updated: Nov 22, 2019
*** IN THE NICK OF TIME, THE PLANTS HAVE FINALLY ARRIVED!!! COME AND GET EM ***
10.30am – 12noon, Saturday 23 November, entrance to Christ Church, Wanstead Place.
As part of CLEANER GREENER WANSTEAD’s initiative to create more green space around Wanstead and National Tree Week, this Saturday, 23 November 2019, we have 200 small (60-100cm), native trees and shrubs to giveaway to the community to plant around the area. This could be anywhere of your choice - backyard, business, sporting club, community project.
The plants on offer are: Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Common Dogwood, Dog Rose, Hazel, Spindle and Common Buckthorn. You could plant a few at the back of your garden, use them as a hedge – or train some of the species into a small tree. They are bare-root saplings – which means they’re dormant and without any foliage, so they generally look like a stick with some roots. Just soak the roots for an hour and pop them into the ground. Simple!
Collection is from the entrance of Christ Church from 10.30am to 12.00 noon, first come first served. If anyone needs any guidance on what to pick and how to plant it, you can discuss with us on Saturday or contact a member of CLEANER GREENER WANSTEAD. We have a planting guide available. The trees are a gift from the Mayor of London in partnership with The Conservation Volunteers.
